Betty Jean Guffey passed from this life on April 16, 2021 in Conway, Arkansas at the age of 90 years. She was born in Gahanna, Ohio on September 16, 1930 to James Carlton and Esther Ellen (Heise) Reed. She grew up and attended schools in Gahanna, and graduated Lincoln High School in the class of 1947. She worked as a clerk/typist for the Ohio Farm Bureau Insurance Company, and as a typist for the American Jersey Cattle Club. Upon retirement, they made their home on a farm in the Seminole area and then to Shawnee, where they spent most of their lives. She was an active member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Oklahoma where she sang in the choir and assisted with Vacation Bible Schools. She enjoyed paint by number and crochet.
In later years, Betty and George moved to the Baptist Retirement Village in Ada, Oklahoma. George passed away in August of 2010, and Betty moved to Gainesville, Georgia to be with her son, Gary. When Gary's health began to fail, they all moved to Conway, Arkansas to be closer to family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Esther Reed; her husband of 57 years, George "Sonny" Guffey, and her son, Gary Guffey.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Linda Guffey of Conway AR; two grandsons, Andy Guffey of Conway AR and Anthony Guffey (Jennifer) of Plano TX; two great-grandsons, Bryson and Austin; one brother, Jim Reed (Nancy) of Columbus OH, and one sister, Carol Ann Puchovich (Mike) of Columbus OH; many other relatives and friends.
