Obituary

Bette Joan Wiley Colburn passed away on August 21, 2013, in Fullerton, California, at the age of 89 years.

Bette was the daughter of Lawrence Huffman & Leta (Scott) Huffman, born on June 24, 1924, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jimmy Huffman, and two husbands, Jackson Wiley and Jack Colburn.

She is survived by two children, Jackson E. Wiley II and wife Sue, of Weiser, Idaho, and Joanie Hole and husband David, of Brea, California; two stepchildren, Bill Colburn of Austin, Texas and Max Colburn of Fort Worth, Texas; five grandchildren: Steven Wiley, David Wiley, Lisa Wiley, David Hole, and Scott Hole; two step grandchildren, Kelley Colburn and Zack Colburn; various other relatives and many friends.

Bette was brought up and attended schools in Holdenville. For several years she helped her mother, Leta, in the restaurant she owned and operated, the Street Car Café, a Holdenville favorite for many years.

Bette moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she met and married Jackson E. Wiley. Her husband joined the service and served during World War II. When his military service ended they lived for a while in California, then moved to Oklahoma, where he attended veterinarian school at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. They returned to Colorado Springs, where they owned and operated a veterinary clinic for three years. Mr. Wiley went to work for the federal government, and they followed his job to various parts of the U.S., moving to a new location every three years. They were divorced after 30 years of marriage, and Bette moved back to Oklahoma.

She lived in Oklahoma City, and worked as bookkeeper for Wamack Property. She was married to Jack Colburn for ten years before he passed away, and after his death she moved to Brea, California, to be with her son and daughter.

Bette enjoyed her children and grandchildren, and her extended family.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013, and Bette will be laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery, with Rev. Charles Rettig officiating.
