Bessie Harjo Fixico passed away in Holdenville on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at the age of 91 years.

Bessie was the daughter of Cheparney Harjo & Betsy (Long) Harjo, born on February 19, 1924, in Yeager, Oklahoma. She was brought up in the Yeager community and attended Bacone School in Muskogee. She was married to Tom Fixico in Fort Smith, Arkansas in1948, and they made their home in Yeager.

Bessie lived most of her life in the Holdenville and Yeager area. She was an active and dedicated member of Salt Creek United Methodist Church, where she held various offices, including Women's Leader. She loved sewing. She loved gardening, always grew a big garden, and she loved cooking and canning what she grew. She loved being a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and she put her heart into caring for her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Cheparney & Betsy Harjo; her husband, Tom Fixico, in 1980; her son, Robert McGeeley, in 2013; sisters Ida Harjo McGeeley and Leona Zink, and brother Ben Harjo.

She is survived by six children: Beaver Ward (Sarah) of Shawnee, Jennie McGeeley, Wayne McGeeley, Idalene Taylor (Jimmy), all of Holdenville, Louis McGeeley Jr. (Stephanie) of Tulsa, and Raney Fixico (Sean Lefthand) of Seminole; five grandchildren: Ida Taylor (Colin Coon) of Okemah, Tommy Taylor of Holdenville, Tim McGeeley (Kendall) of Glenpool, Alyssa McGeeley of Broken Arrow, and Alesha Hill of Dewar; seven great grandchildren: Caleb Hodgins, Kaitlyn Hodgins, Caleson Coon, Rylee McGeeley, Switzer McGeeley, Kayton Lefhand, and Carmyn Bessie Lefthand; numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.

There will be a wake service on Thursday, June 4, 7:00 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home's Lillye Chapel.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 5, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Salt Creek United Methodist Church, and Bessie will be laid to rest in the Morning Glory Cemetery. Rev. Paul Fixico, Louis McGeeley Jr., and Rev. David Long will officiate. Pallbearers are Glenn Zink, Tim McGeeley, Sean Lefthand, Mike McGirt, Tenetke Deere, and Wotko Long. Honorary pallbearers are Caleb Hodgins, Tommy Taylor, Jimmy Taylor, Beaver Ward, Colin Coon, Robert Fixico, Jason Tiger, Lance Taylor, and Wayne McGeeley.
