Andrew Jackson Newton Jr., 87, passed away at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Holdenville on Sunday, June 23, 2013.
Andrew was born in Weleetka, Oklahoma on September 2, 1925, to Andrew Jackson Newton Sr. & L'Vina (Burden) Newton, the eldest of their six children. He was brought up and attended schools in Weleetka.
He married Neona Doris Day in Okemah, Oklahoma on December 21, 1945, while serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1946, they made their home in Weleetka, and spent a few years farming and raising their three children: Andrew Jackson III, John Henry, and Glenda Renee. Andrew later went to work in the oil field, and they lived in various places across Oklahoma. He was working for Tide West in Holdenville when he retired.
Andrew always took care of his family, including extended family when his help was needed. He cared for his parents and grandparents in their elderly years, helped raise his younger sisters, and his household almost always included at least one additional family member living there whenever it was necessary. He was always willing and happy to help in any way he could.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Sr. & L'Vina Newton; brother James Newton; his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris Newton; son John Henry Newton; one grandson, Andrew Jackson 'Drew' Newton IV, and two great grandsons, Andy Joe Kibby and Drew Jaxson Kibby.
He is survived by two children, Andrew Jackson Newton III and wife Anna, and Glenda Swift and husband Jesse, all of Holdenville; six grandchildren: Jerrianna Kindrick and husband Keith, Andrea Crawford and husband Donald, Amy Newton and companion Delbert Kibby, Joseph Swift, Daniel Swift and wife Haylay; eleven great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles & Marilyn Newton of Stockton, California; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Georgia & Tex Gentry of Fresno, California, Dolly & Dick Webber and Lola & Roy Mosely, all of Bernice, Oklahoma; various other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 27, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cowboy Church, and Andrew will be laid to rest in the Wetumka Cemetery. Rev. John Roberts is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are Delbert Kibby, Keith Kindrick, Donald Crawford, Levi Arsen, Joseph Swift, and Daniel Swift. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Crawford, John Miller, Jeremy Kraft, and Derron Sisco.
