Alton Jewel 'Jr.' Taylor Jr. passed away at his home in Holdenville on Friday, December 7, 2012, at the age of 83 years.
Jr. was the son of A. J. 'Doc' Taylor Sr & Era (Westerman) Taylor, born on October 23, 1929, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He was brought up and attended schools in Wewoka and New Lima. He joined the U.S. Army, and served during the Korean War era in the early 1950s. He worked for many years in the oil field, going back and forth between Oklahoma and California, then followed his brother, Jesse, to Fort Worth, Texas, where he lived for some thirty years. He worked for Fort Worth Bolt & Tool for twenty-five years, retiring in the early 1980s, and moved a few years later to Holdenville.
He married Joyce Choate in Holdenville on April 5, 1986. He worked as the local operator for the Beaver Express freight company in Holdenville, and as a handy man for his friend Glen Paslay. He retired from Beaver Express in the early 2000s, and spent his time doing things he enjoyed. He turned old fences and wood pallets into beautiful wall clocks. He liked buying and rebuilding 4-wheelers, and riding them around town. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of the First Church of God of Holdenville.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 22 years, Joyce, in 2008; his parents, Doc & Era Taylor; one son, Larry Taylor, in 2007; two brothers, Jesse Taylor in 2010, Billy Ray Taylor in 1991.
He is survived by three children: Brenda Taylor of Springtown, Texas, Mike Taylor and wife Nan, of Rendon, Texas, and Rick Taylor and wife Becky, of Rendon, Texas; two stepchildren, Jimmy Choate and Cheryl Stinnett, both of Holdenville; four grandchildren: Brittany Taylor, Jared Taylor, Jonathan Taylor, and Ryan Taylor; four step grandchildren: Cortney Scism, Jamie Stinnett, Aaron Choate, and Jimmy Lee Choate; two great grandchildren, McKenzie and Kasen; two step great grandchildren, Brayden and Lauren; two sisters, Shirley McAdoo and husband Jay, of Holdenville, and Jonny Faye Clark of Eufaula; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends, including one very special friend, Glen Paslay of Holdenville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 11, 2012, 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of God in Holdenville, and Jr. will be laid to rest in the Holdenville Cemetery. Rev. Jon Ewers is the officiating minister. Pallbearers are Eddie Taylor, Wayne Taylor, Mike Taylor, Rick Taylor, Ryan Taylor, and Jonathan Taylor.
