Alfred J. W. 'Dub' Wagoner passed away in Oklahoma City on Monday, September 4, 2017, at the age of 91 years.
Dub was the son of Elcha & Della (Young) Wagoner, born on April 18, 1926, in Lamar, Oklahoma, where he was brought up and attended schools. He served his country overseas, arriving with the first group of U.S. Army troops to occupy Japan, and serving his time in Okinawa. He returned to the Lamar/Carson area following military service.
Dub married Ruby Christene Skipworth in Holdenville, Oklahoma on February 11, 1948. He worked at farming all his life, and for fifteen years he also worked in maintenance for Holdenville General Hospital. He dedicated many years of his life serving as Pastor of the Free Pentecostal Church of Lamar. He and Ruby made Lamar their lifelong home, and spent more than sixty-nine happy years together before the Lord called Dub home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elcha & Della Wagoner; three brothers: Ivan Wagoner, Earnest Wagoner, and John Wagoner; one sister, Corene Wagoner.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Ruby, of the home; two brothers, Dale Wagoner and Jimmy Wagoner (Retha), all of McLoud; two sisters, Florene Rader and Norene Looper, both of Wichita KS; several nieces and nephews, various other family members, and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Free Pentecostal Church of Lamar, and Dub was laid to rest, with military honors, at Lamar Cemetery. Rev. Larry Chesser was the officiating minister. Pallbearers were Mike Martin, Keith Martin, Ronnie Looper, Jamie Skipworth, James Martin, and John Bain. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Gann, William Martin, and Butch Skipworth.
